D-A-S Construction Co. was founded in 1986 as a family-owned and operated business by John A. Pumper along with the help and support of his wife Anna and sons Steven and Daniel, whose initials stand as inspiration for the firm's name. A veteran of commercial construction, John A. Pumper felt the need to reintroduce honesty and honor into the industry, something he would accomplish through D-A-S.
The company opened its first office on Broadway Avenue in April 1986, focusing on interior renovations, with Daniel taking the role of project manager, Steven handling sales and marketing and Anna managing the accounting and payroll. In just a few years D-A-S began growing, adding employees and service offerings including ground up construction. By 1996, D-A-S outgrew it's office and moved to it's current location near I-480 and I-77 in Garfield Heights.
In 1994, eldest son John David Pumper came aboard as CFO, bringing D-A-S into the computer age. That same year, Jeffrey J. Troxell joined the firm as vice president to handle operations. By 2000, D-A-S had grown into a construction powerhouse, completing over 500 projects a year! In 2001, D-A-S formed the Select Projects Group (SPG) to focus on the specific needs of clients with interior renovations or small building additions.
Today, D-A-S employs over 100 skilled professionals and has earned CWRU's Weatherhead Top 100 and Top 25 Family business Awards. A five-year plan is now in place to keep the firm growing by 10 - 12% a year, slow enough to keep D-A-S' core strengths of quality and customer service at the forefront of its operations. As D-A-S continues to grow and expand its market share, the founding philosophies of consistent, quality solutions are more pertinent than ever. By building cohesive and creative relationships with both clients and employees, D-A-S continues to guarantee its steady growth well into the future. |
