Project Description
Fast-track interior renovation of the 13th floor of the Penton Media Building for the relocation of Bank One's Regional Corporate Offices. D-A-S began construction by demolishing the previous tenants office and reconstructed 20,000 square feet of office space including architectural finishes, custom millwork, new plumbing, HVAC and electrical. This entire project was completed by D-A-S in just 80 calendar days!
The uniqueness of this project's millwork is multi-faceted. The superior quality of the millwork's finishes and craftsmanship is only a small facet of the overall workmanship. Due to relocation constraints imposed on the owner, the overall construction process was condensed into an eight-week period in which D-A-S constructed 20,000 square feet of pristine office space. This mandated foregoing the usual shop drawing approval process and necessitated relying on the skills and abilities of our millwork carpenters to create the pieces by relying on conceptual drawings provided by the architect and actual field measurements.
The concentration to detail can be seen in the hidden glass stop construction in the conference room borrow lights, the book match veneering, alignment of the narrow reveals and the matching of stain colors and finishes with the factory finished cherry doors and cherry furniture. All millwork was preassembled in the shop, prior to shipment to the project, to assure proper fit, then disassembled, transported to the project and finally assembled in place where only minor adjustments were needed.
One of the most unique millwork features was the creation of "Testing Carousels". The Owner requested a testing center for prospective employees but due to a limited amount of office space, they were unable to dedicate an area strictly for testing of applicants. As a result, one of the smaller conference rooms at the entrance was designed to function as both a conference room and testing center. Bank One requested that the Testing Carousels be constructed in a manner that would allow them to be hidden when not in use. Due to space constraints, conventional leaf doors on the face of the carousels could not be used. Sliding doors that slide into pockets aligned with the sides of the carousels were the solution. Since conventional pocket hardware wasn't manufactured for doors the size required for the carousels, D-A-S had to utilize standard manufactured hardware that was readily available. By incorporating and supplementing the hardware into this unique piece, D-A-S was able to provide a reliable, successful function of the pocket door hardware that would sustain the additional weight of the larger size doors and possible abuse incurred due to normal use.
